tranny fluid type?

i have a 93 ranger 5 speed 4.0. i need to top up the tranny fluid can someone tell me what is the best type to use?

do i have to buy it from ford or can i get it from annother source like canadian tire?

any place that sells Motorcraft will probably have it and you can also try different brands as long as they are compatible with the specs of MERCON and MERCON V.

tranny fluid type?

Mercon/Dextron 3 is the only "Ford" approved trans fluid for the 5-spds in Rangers. As for Mercon 5, it is not interchangable w/ mercon 3 except for a couple of transmissions ( E4OD & 4R70W only)
