My 2005
My first Ford. My first Diesel. Love it so far!!!
I orderd it Loaded it came in in 6 weeks.
Dad retired from GM so I always bought GM. Decided to give Ford a shot and I am glad I did. Cant beat the room in the crew cab. Trying to get used to the noise of the diesel after driving gassers for 20 years.
I was thking about switching to synthetic after 2500 miles is this sufficient time to break in the engine?
Check out my gallery for Pics.
I myself would wait untill you had like 10,000 miles on the truck before you change to synthetic oil,,you wanna make sure its broke in well first,,I've heard that the diesels take even longer then that to break in
I had a 99' with a 7.3 PS and I swicthed to synthetic around 11,000 miles and it seemed fine,,,Good luck.
Later,,,,,,,,,,Mark
As for the sythetic oil quesiton. These was has been discussed a bunch on this board and there are several opinions. Some say new vehicles like the Corvette and others are delivered with synthetic, so it won't hurt. Others will say for proper break-in of the diesel, stay on dino for around 10,000. What it comes down to is it is your truck, so I guess read up and make your decision when you feel educated. You will probably get plenty of responses on this to help aid you in your decision. Myself, no preference, I am not running synthetic and don't think I will for quite some time, I don't say never because you never know.
Highly recommend synthetic oil in a 5w40 weight due to the fact that the 6.0 has a tendancy to "lope" with the heavier 15w40. Mobil 1 seems to be a popular choice- I get slightly better mileage with it towing and unloaded. I do not go for extended intervals due to increased levels of fuel in the oil contamination which lowers the flashpoint according to Blackstone labs.
Three last points: 1) I would wait until 7-10,000 before using synthetic. 2) Install a fumoto valve 3) As you probably know, the 6.0 only needs 13.5-14 quarts per oil change not 15.
Good luck!
