Does anyone know the model # of the coolant temp sensor a 78' 460 would use?
The autozone website and store recommend a Wells TU25, but when they brought it out it takes two leads. The Coolant Sensor I have in the truck now just has one (finely threaded?) copper color lead.
All you have to do is look at the sensor bulb and it will have a degree marking stamped in the copper, get the correct degree and thread size and it will work fine. I don't know why a coolant sensor would have 2 connection's, never seen that before. Maybe try a different part's store.
I fixed my coolant sensor and now my guage works, it sits right at normal once it warms up. I am running a 180 degree thermostat. I got it at a place called Merle's automotive here in Tucson. They are calling it "S1 TS24" but apparently its just the same as something AC Delco makes called a F1855.
Now all my gauges work in the dash. Its getting there.
Gentlemen,
The sending units are not pertinent to the engine. They are related to the instrument panel. There are only two types to my knowledge;
1. Gage
2. Idiot light
Of course, there are two for the oil, two for the temp, there are many for the fuel sending unit, which is dependant on the tank, and there are none for the alt.
It's that simple,
