I have a 2004 FX4 SC WITH A 5.4. When truck is at idle with truck in gear and foot on brake there is vibration in the brake pedal and occasionably in the seat and steering wheel. If you bring the idle up 100-200 RPM the vibration goes away. The dealer has been great but to no avail. They flashed the computer numerous times but the idle will not increase. They also replaced the throttle body. They called Ford's hotline and they told them to put on an exhaust isolator and one of those frame vibration dampers but nothing has changed. I hope someone has had the same problem and knows the cure. Maybe the next thing is replace the compressor but I dodn't want that messed with. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. FISHEAD
The idle is going all the way down to 100 - 200 rpm??? This is definatly a PCM problem since the idle is set by the computer.
Here are a couple things to try. Take a plastic shopping bag and wrap it around the black, rubber air intake hose. This will help seal any leaks after the mass airflow sensor that could be causing your truck to think that it is getting less air in than it is. I used to have this problem with my 97 expy and found that one of the little ridges in the tube was cracked.
Also ask the dealer to swap out the air flow sensor, just to see if it makes a difference. If it is still reading within range, the computer won't set a fault.
Lastly, and most obviously, make sure the hoses on everything are tight.
It really sounds like a computer/ metered air problem.
Good Luck,
MK
