Radiator help again

I must be the world's worst do-it-yourselfer. I got the new a radiator in my truck, but when I started to fill it I only got about 5 quarts into the radiator and it was full. It should hold 8.6. So I started it up to see if it would go down, but it just started to overflow out of the neck. I figure I have an air pocket somewhere. Any suggestions? Sorry I keep asking such stupid questions, but I'm trying to learn on the fly.

You have to take into consideration what was left in the block..the block holds alot just by itself. You have to fill the radiator up and let it warm up with the cap off so the thermostat will open and allow the fluid to flow..then top it off and put the cap on and it will pressurize.

Autozone will loan you a cooling system pressure gauge. Remove the radiator cap, install the gauge & follow the directions that come with the gauge. This should'nt be overflowing.
