I've looked for a search button on this site but it must be avoiding me.
Here are the problems i'm having:
rear wiper worked, didn't work, worked, now it doesn't again, this is all w/no changes done to the wiper motor or anything.
front wiper fluid stopped working
stereo lights are not working
unable to manually lock doors
was locked out yesterday, i started the engine, shut the door, went inside for a minute and came back out to find the truck had locked me out.
any help w/resolving these issues would be appreciated.
thanks,
kim
Rear Wiper - Check your mounting bolts on the motor. If they are loose it does not allow the wiper arm to return to the off position correctly. Try moving the wiper arm out of the retaining bracket while it is in the off position and let it rest. It will probally move toward the ground about 1/2 inch. Now turn the wiper on. Does it start? If yes then check the bolts.
Stereo lights - I tried everything short of spending $200 to fix. Swapped it out with a Kenwood radio, cd changer and new speakers. Best $400 I have spent - Crutchfield.com
Manual lock doors - If it is all of the doors, ????. If it is one door, the door lock motor still works - Yes - then it is more than likely the door latch mechanism. For a 98 Explorer it cost $45 at the dealer.
The rear wiper was just as you suggested so now my question is,
where are the bolts on the motor to tighten?
I removed the stereo today to see if i had any loose wires or anything and no go so i guess the lights are fried in it and will take the same route in getting another one.
There are a number of on-line people that will sell you the stereo light board or instructions on how to resolder the board yourself. Do a search on this forum. There have been a number of discussions regarding this topic. The search is near the top in the blue section. It was down for awhile but back now.
You will need to remove the strap on the rear hatch. Some covers have 5 screws that help hold the door cover to the hatch. Remove them. Other models do not use screws.
Next pry off the door cover off using a uphostry tool (looks like a 2 prong fork available at auto part store or if you are good a screwdriver). Be careful not to bend the plastic.
Any plastic tabs that bend can be reused. Now you can get to the mounting bolts.
