My 2002 expl. has 59,000 miles on it. It started to make a loud humming noise when turning left. My tire tread was geting low so I replaced them for the winter with same style tire but still have noise when turning left. I do feel a slight vibration in steering whell when I hear the noise. Any help??
Is the humming coming from your power steering pump? Or is the humming sound like rubbing noise? If your power steering pump is causing the problem, it should make the sound when you steer left even if the car is not rolling. So have some one listen to the engine to see if the noise is there while turning the wheel.
Brakes and/or wheel bearings might cause the noise as well, but the car would need to be rolling to get noise from them.
