Lost performance

88 F250 351w EFI truck seems to have lost a lot of performance the last view months, especially going up hill. I've looked into everything I can think of. Anybody have any ideas???

Well, I've checked the timming, it seems to be fine. Replaced the plugs and wires. Both inline pumps appear to be functioning normally. I replaced the fuel pressure regulator about a month ago. The pressure in the fuel rail appears normal. I've replaced the fuel pump relay, and both the computer and the wiring system appear to be normal. I can't explain the loss of power. I also noticed that I'm burning oil, but can't find a leak anywhere. I think the problem may be the computer system. I've replaced the ignition module as well as the o2, TPS sensor and rewired the MAP sensor. Maybe the PCM is bad, but I have no way of testing it. Also, the truck is hard to start when it's warm, and I often have to jump the fuel pump relay to get it started. It seems to be a very strange problem. Any ideas????

That is an interesting one alright. When I first read your post, I was thinking more on the lines of your torque convertor/fuel injectors going out or something along those lines. Then you mention burning oil without being able to find the leak. This may sound obsurde, but your truck isn't exactly new anymore, maybe it's time for a rebuild.

If all the wiring to the fuel pump relay is in good shape, an ignition starter switch is probably in order. If your o2 sensors are new, you have a loss of power, you get poor mileage, and your oil is a little gassy, you might need new injectors. Worn injectors don't atomize fuel properly, so you have power loss coupled with poor mileage and a good bit of the fuel that just dropped into your cylinders drains into your engine oil. Might be something to check into.

Ya, I think this is pretty plausable. My mileage is so bad, that I can easily see worn injectors being the cause. I can't smell gas in the oil, however I can smell alot of unburned gas comming out of the exhaust. Do you think this is consistant with worn injectors?
