Best year for truck
#3
For a project pick the one you whose looks you like the best - you will be changing the running gear and interior to suit yourself anyway.
If you are looking for a driver that you will keep close to stock, I would chose either the 1972 Model year, or the 75/76 years. The 72 was the end of that model, and it should have all the improvments that were made over the years.
The 75/76 model years were late enough to have many of the improvments of that model truck, but before all the engineering changes mandated by smog and dot rules, and the gas shortage.
That being said, the differances between a 1968 to 1979 model are small, so buy the one you like based on condition and whatever mods you may wish to make.

I like the 67-72, and the 73-79 F Series. I've been working on a 67/69 project because I had a 68 in my younger days. I can tell you that it will be easier to find parts for the 73-79. You are also more likely to find a 73-79 with creature comforts like disc brakes and power steering than with a 67-72.
But, for many of us, it comes down to the looks. Then we make the rest of it work how we want...or die trying :-)
