He lived # mmiles from his parking spot @ work and it now has (with 3500+- being by me) 60,300 miles. A small, but well-remembered & relayed to me, collection of dings, 300-6, 3-tree & NO OTHER non-selected additiopns, including the emission items mandatory on non-fleet vehicles for '78. I've aLREADY ADDED a/c, 16" factory rims w/255/55's, and Just finishing a beginners list of engine mods(.421 lift cam, match-port exh.& de-seam int. ports, new guides, seats, springs, mil .o14, "upgrade rockers to fulcrum-style of later models. Stock exh manifold to a short, nearly straight 1 7/8" mandrel-bevt exh. pipe that ends ina glass-pack (Not a choice for sweet sounds, IMHO)& 30 degree turn-down appr. 12" in front of the axle.
I've a NP-435 4-spd, a 2/3" drop kit, Sony CD & 1 1/4 fr.(off a '79 Trans Am ws-6!!) & factory small (7/8"?) r. sway-bar in the garage now. Those should wake up the handling, ease the mpg #'s, & increase my enjoyment just a LITTLE bit more. The kids in their V-6 short-beds w/ 20's & attitude already don't like my torqy long-bed(ol' Yeller to me), those mod's AND the next rebuild ( no date yet, but Clifford, Weber, SS long tubes & the 17X8.5" Torque-Thrusts w/KDW's should be welcomed by the internal mods I'm dreaming/planning now. (I'm grinning just now @ the thought!)
In short, I REALLY like my truck, will keep it for a LONG, long time, and am looking forward tyo hearing any suggestions from you folks on engine mods for 250 RWHP on upthat will retain dependability and won't chew too big a hole in my fuel budget. I've a '99 Camaro SS road-course (mostly) car that does that already.
Once again, I look forward to it,(both the interaction w/truck folk AND the work on my truck), hope my long-windedness is ok for a first post, and need to go now. A friend is repairing his Hurrticane Rita-damaged shop 2day & I'm helping. It's worth it, he's not only an old friend, he also has a car lift that I get to use! Yeah, well worth it. C-ya soon!
