Hey guys I just picked up a set of new Heddman Headers for my 79 F 250 2WD 460. Does anybody know how easy the installation is. I guess I mean do you have to jack up a side of the motor to get them to fit correctly. I am going to replace the starter and get an insulator so it does not heat up too bad. Any input appreciated.
Ranchero, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but pack a lunch cause it's gonna take all day. Recruit at least 1 extra set of hands. Jack the engine up to the moon. As far as the starter...I went to Hi Lo oriely's and bought a starter for a 75 model full size ford car with a 460. That starter comes with a heat shield and a life time warranty for 37.00.
Ranchero - not an easy job, I'm afraid. I had to pull my engine up out of the frame and lay my L&L's down on the frame and then set the engine back down to fasten them on. Good luck - buy a LOT of Go-Jo!!...
I have a 79 460 f250 2wd(Trailer Special).Lets know how it went.I'am planning to pull the motor out and replace the rear main seal and also do alot of clean up.I guess that would be a good time in put some on.Just having a hard time finding out which one to get,as in the best set-up.Which one's do you get, shortys, fender well exit..etc.This truck does not have sway bars.
Ranchero, I just installed a set of Hedmans in my "77 F-350. It wasn,t that bad. I did it in an afternoon and yes I had to jack up the engine, but only for the passenger side. If your headers are fender well exit it won't be bad. I did have my son helping me. Couldn't be happier. The old headers were Hooker full length and leaked like swiss cheese. If I had been smart I would have just laid out the extra cash for the new headers when I did my rebuild but I was trying to save a few bucks and reuse the old headers! By the way my truck is a "77 Super Camper Special with the 460/C6, A/C, cruise control, power steering... in other words all the hanging on the block stuff.
Not sure about the Hedman's, But I have Blackjack headers. Removed starter and they slid right-in from bottom on that side, left side a little tougher but "HEY IT'S ALL NUTS-N-BOLTS" Good luck.
