Go easy folks..I'm a novice at this post and even more of a novice at this truck lingo. My husband thought I was nuts explaining the problem until it happened to him. I've gone through all the messages to find similiar problems to mine and have come up with a bunch of possibilities. My truck is fantastic except this last month or so sometimes the truck won't start. If I go somewhere and stay there for 1/2 hour it seems to be a non-issue. However, shorter than that and the truck won't start. Its like gas isn't getting into it or its not firing. The starter is fine and I just got it back from the mechanic who replaced the delayed fuel pump switch which I'm gathering is the DFP? Anyway, he said he replaced a fuel pump and filter on another Ranger with a similiar problem and it didn't help. Now, the past posts talk alot about an EEC relay which I suspect may be the little black box under the heater that I already checked and its fine-no reset needed. Someone mentioned an igniton switch connector and and ECT sensor. Then there was the infamous EEC relay next to the FP relay and of course the clutch switch. Finally, mention was made about the distributor cap and the rotor corrosion. If you were me, what order of checking this mess out would you start with? I'm worried about stalling the thing and it not starting back up besides for the fact that I have to plan 30 minute outtings ..just in case.
Thanks for any help.(PS if you do reply, would you mind spelling out the words..I can't hang with the alpha coding) THANK YOU!!!!
I would start with pulling the codes. Do you hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds when you first turn the key to on when the problem happens? I'm not sure if your truck has a TFI module on the distributor but these are known for causing no-start when hot. This is a small module attached directly to the distributor. What engine do you have?
Hi, I just had a problem with my truck also, that sounds pretty close to what yours is doing. I originally changed the fuel pump and fuel pump relay, and I thought it was fixed, but about a month later it started acting up again. I got some good advice on here and replaced the EEC relay, and as soon as I did it fired right up, and so far it seems to be working great. Hope this helps..
