Ok, bear with me here. I'm new and don't know much about vehicles. My husband has a 1994 2.3L Ranger. Manual 5 speed transmission. He got a new work vehicle and we can't afford 3 vehicles, so we are going to sell the Ranger. Well, I didn't know it had a hard time getting into gear! I checked the clutch fluid level and it was DRY! Bone dry. So, I added DOT 3 Brake fluid. It still has a hard time getting into gear after it is started. Do I need to bleed the clutch? Could this be why it has a hard time getting into gear. I don't know how long my hubbie was driving it like this. Could the transmission be damaged? Thanks so much!
Yes, it does need to be bled.
There also might be damage to the clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder o-rings due to operating them without fluid. The main question is: Where did the fluid go?
There has to be a leak somewhere, as this is a closed system.
Have a competent tech. look at it and then make a decision to repair or sell as is.
