I've just scanned my 98 Expedition and got the following error codes: P0171 and P0174. About 20k miles ago, I had the same codes and replaced the Mass Air Flow Sensor. The scanner collects other data in addition to the error codes. Does anyone know where I can obtain the sensor specification information (ie voltages, percents, etc.) so I can determine if the sensor(s) are within specification?
Thanks, Stephen
First, I would check the PCV hose assembly. They are known to crack back behind the intake where they attatch. If all is good there, I would try cleaning the MAF. There are detailed procedures in the 97-03 forum in the FAQ thread.
Thanks,
You hit it right on the money. The elbow on the hose was extremely cracked. I replaced it with the factory part ($31.00), ran another scan and came up clean. I'm glad that it was the hose and not the MAF since I had replaced that 19,000 miles ago. Again, thanks for your help.
