Project?
).And I want something to tinker with, and the wife won't let me touch her car
, I don't know why
.So anyhow I was thinking, people don't know much about truck racing here, and while I was on a recent trip to the US I saw a couple of F-650's that really took my eye...
I think you can see where this is going, anyway.
I was thinking of importing a new F-650 with the 7.2, and building it up to be a drag truck...
Who out there has a 7.2?
What are your experiences?
I know the Allison is a well regarded transmission, but looking at the specs of their website, it has no hope of handling the Torque that I plan on putting through it.
What transmission should I change it to, if and when I go ahead with the plan?
I am not a fan of Auto's (said I would never have one) but I know sticks struggle on the track.
The plans are.
Import a F-650 with a 7.2, and convert to RHD - a mate will do the conversion.
Put approx. 10000miles on it, to break it in, and then start with the power!!!
There does not appear to be many off the shelf products for the 7.2, has anyone had any experience with increasing the power on one of these?
I would like to do it with a 6ohh (a lot cheaper and easier), but the truck will be used as a marketing tool for my business, and an F-650 with a Cat under the bonnet has so much more marketing potential than a run of the mill F-250 (despite the fact we don't get 6ohh's here.).
Anyhow to sum up, will it be worth the effort? as it won't be cheap
Any other suggestions???
The plans are now for a street driving "drag truck" hopefully.
When I piped my GTO with nitrous, there was no application for that particular motor, so I did my own..

I spose that just means more time spent under the bonnet
The missus is going to love this

But I have to darling...
Now I just need to justify the expense.

I could get the 6ohh with the F-650 - or the cummins for that matter - but I feel that the CAT is the far better engine.
What is anyone else's opinion?
