check engine light stomper, HELP ME PLEASE!!!
and they tell me that bank 1 and bank 2 o2 sensors are bad and running a bit lean on bank 1; they mention something about checking the heater circuit fuse, and thats it. put my truck up later that i know i see four of them. they look easy to replace how would i know which one to replace? and where is the heater circuit fuse located at? i need to pass emissions. i have 97 f 150 4.6 2wd if anybody can help please or pointers. the codes that was showing was p0141, p0171, p0174 i dont know what they mean. this beyond my knowledge about my truck
Bank 1: Passenger side
Bank 2: Drivers side
Upstream O2: Closest to the engine
Downstrem O2: After the converter
---
You said you see four of them, well, usually the ones that need to be changed are the ones closest to the engine, Bank 1 & 2 Upstream, which tell the PCM the air/fuel ratio so it can control the fuel injectors.
So I would start with the two upstream O2 Sensors.
The two downstream O2 Sensors just tell the PCM that the converter is working properly and don't need to be changed like the two upstream sensors.
----
As for the codes this is what they mean:
p0141 = Downstream HO2S Heater Circuit Fault, Bank No. 1
p0171 = System Too Lean, Bank No. 1
p0174 = System Too Lean, Bank No. 2
If you dealer told you to change O2 Sensors then you can if you want to but usually the O2 Sensor isn't bad it is another faulty part and the O2 sensor is reading wrong.
Racerguy (The moderator of this forum) is one person that will tell you to make sure you check everything else before changing the O2 Sensors, which I agree.
Some things to check is the MAF, IAC, etc.
Hope this helps.
