51 f1 Cab Mounting

Has anyone changed the way the rear of the cab mounts to the frame. My front mounts at the door posts are all broken and I assume its from the rear of the cab being allowed to bounce up and down in the rear. I know this was the way the factory designed it but with the rust and fatigue I fear those mounts will eventually break through if I just install new suspension mount pads. I was able to weld up the cracks, and I will treat the rust but I just don't have the room to cut and replace them at this point. I think It would almost be easier to replace the cab than attempt such a repair. I'm thinking of putting rubber strips between the cab and frame and drill them so the rear of the cab can be mounted solid. That should help the front mounts last for awhile, I hope.

I've been thinking about that too - but haven't gotten to it yet.

I was thinking about taking the front cab mounts (that extend out from the frame) off another truck and mounting them to the frame at the back of the cab - where the cab floor is reinforced and drilling through the floor. That way it will be more stable from side to side too.

I posted this question on the Bonusbuilt.com forum also and i got a response back. He said because the frame is designed to flex on those models if I bolted mine down it would destory the cab. So, I have welded up the cracks in the mount at the door pilar. Used Por on the underside rust, Installed new rubber insulators on the rear mounting arms. Then I cut an old radial tire into strips and put it between the cab and frame from about center to the back of the cab. To keep the bottom of the cab from riding on and bending my new running boards, like it did to the old ones. Time will tell if this was the right way to got about it.
