Ranger mirrors

Has anyone out there ever installed a set of 92-96 F150 power mirrors on a early Ranger? The small crappy mirrors on my 90 Ranger have always been a pain. I tightened up the drivers side and now the passenger side is flopping around. It might look like mickey mouse but I would love to have larger mirrors without resorting to the old cargo style. The larger F150's have an internal brace that would have to be removed and a new hole drilled in the door. I plan on using an internal doubler plate to reduce any flexing of sheet metal. Wiring up the adjusting switch would be no big deal. Since the F150's don't have vertical adjustment the toughest part might be getting them level. I'm open for suggestions, anyone knowing of a larger version of the stock manual mirrors would be OK too if the F150's are not feasable.

I know this isn't what you're asking for, but when my '90 Ranger mirrors started drooping, I took them off and as I recall I used a small punch and hammered (staked) the socket where the ball is, being careful nut to break the mirror. I've had to repeat the process every year or two, but it seems to work.

Yep, I've been there myself but used a drill and sheet metal screw to apply pressure and make them tight but still adjustable. The metal is hard as heck so you also need a real hard screw. I was hoping to find a permanent fix. The F150 mirrors are cheap on eBay so I may try it and see what happens.

Rockauto.com has inexpensive replacements for the factory mirrors. My recollection is that they were around $15 - - - you may want to take a look before spending too much time "fixing" the old one.

Hope this helps.
