400 starter
Okay, I need to know if any of you have heard of doing this.
I have a 77 F150 with a 400, manual trans. I put headers on the truck, and now I need to get a mini starter. I started pricing gear reduction starters, and they are pretty steep. I called one of the local 4wd shops, and he said that he just picks up a starter for a 94 F250 with a 460 and manual trans, and uses it. I checked around, and that year and model truck does use a stock gear reduction mini starter. It has a 10 tooth drive gear, and the mounting looks the same. I don't want to buy the starter though, until I'm sure that the match-up will work. Anyone ever done this?
