battery placement

For those of you that have dual batteries where did you place the 2nd battery? It doesent look like there is enough room on the left side inner fender like there was on my 79. Oh by the way this is an 80 f250.

You'll likely have to move the overflow/ww fluid container back a bit on the fender wall, and then install a second battery tray, and either daisy chain the batteries together, or purchase a battery isolater to hook it up correctly. Make sure both batteries are identical, and preferrably both are new to avoid problems in this regard. One weaker battery will drag the other down, amperage differences will cause other problems as well with charging and so on...parts can fry here.

you can get a battery bracket from a diesel; they bolt onto the driver's front, by the wiper reservior.

or you could mount it behind the factory battery.

When I was using Clyde with a slide-in camper I scoured the salvage yards until I found an OEM one to hold the deep cycle camper battery. It mounts in the front corner off the radiator support and the inner fender sheetmetal in the same area as the washer tank and when installed the tank goes on the back of the battery bracket.

The factory unit is a good solid mount ... very important for a battery. Mine came out of a gas truck (optional) but all diesels had them.

Good hunting, hope you can find one!

Roger
