ALT Swap

I have a 1967 ford truck with 1967 wiring. I am installing a 1994 351W engine that has been converted to carb. I want to use the serpentine belt system. My question is will it be ok to use a 1994 alternator with the 67 wiring? A 67 alternator had a larger pulley on it and was around 60 amps. The 94 will have a much smaller pulley and have more amps. Having a smaller pulley will make the Alternator spin faster. Anyone have any ideas in this area? I don't want to burn up my truck. And I know that March makes all kinds of conversion kits but I would like to avoid spending over $600 for a kit. Thanks.

I also posted this in the 351W forum, maybe those guys will also know something.

Does the new system use an external regulator or is it internal? As far as the alt spinning faster it shouldn't produce more then 14.3 volts. Your old system produces the same amount, or should anyway. The only thing I am not sure about is how the wiring is ran to it. I use a one-wire 70amp alt with an internal regulator. It produces 14.3 volts when running above 1500rpm. It works wonderful. You should be fine as long as you wire it right and know if it has its own internal regulator or if it is external.

Not sure about the regulator, I'll have to check. As far as wiring up goes, I think I can get a kit to covert my three wire to a one wire.

I am not sure if the alts that Ford uses can be converted over to a one-wire. My first alt I used a Delcotron 10-S1 alt and bought a kit from Jegs. Summitt also sale a kit. If you do find a Ford application alt that can be converted to a one-wire please let me know. Greg
