Hi guys, I have a 00 Explorer XLT and I want to lower it.. now it has leaf suspension rear end..I can add lowering blocks to it..but on the front it has torsion bar suspension...what i want to know is where on the under front part do i find the spot where i can wind the torsion bar down?? Anyone got a photo or location?
The adjusting bolt is down the back end of the torsion bar.
Jack the car up to relieve the tension on the bar first.
I don't know which way to turn the bolt though.
The torsion bar bolts are about where the front doors are. Look under at that point and follow the torsion bars back to where they end like Flash said. You will see and indented spot with a bolt coming down. This is the bolt you want to play with. Loosen to lower - tighten to raise. I suggest taking the bolt all the way out - then replacing it and keep tightening it until you get it even on both sides (do this for both sides). This will get you about 2.5-3" of drop. Anymore than that, and you have to do a torsion bar flip.
Once you get it lowered the height you want, you might want to look at the bumpstops to see if they need to be trimmed any. Most people trim theirs in half to allow for more ride in the suspension. And of course - once you are done - head straight to the alignment shop. They will probably have to add cambers on each side to get it right.
The link is blocked by my work server, but from the address, it looks like it might be Matt's Explorer (Black Magic).
Yes, you will need longer u-bolts. Being in Austrailia - I have no idea of the auto part stores you have, but if you have an Auto Zone, they have a 3" lowering kit for somewhere around $25.00. It comes with the blocks and the new u-bolts and plates.
