HELP! I really cna't afford this right now. I got into my 97' Ranger today, and the darn 4wd light was blinking on and off. 4wd does not work!! I think it may be something electrical, such as a servo or motor, but it sure sounds expensive. The truck runs fine, only in 2wd. I have that doped turn button 4wd, not the actual shifter that goes into the trans. Why do they have to make things so complicated
yeah- thats a simple fix... not too expensive either.
pull the transfer case off the tranny, disconnect all wires and such... use old case as wheel chock for future projects and go buy a decent case at the junk yard. as far as i know, ANY ranger, bII, or exploder (except v8 sploders) transfer case should bolt right up to the tranny. just cut a hole in the floor, throw a rubber boot on it, and VOILA!!! better than new.
check your shift module. There is a small white button on it, hold it down and reset the module. If thats not it, try engaging and disengaging it, and have someone get under and listen to see if the shift motor is moving. It sounds like the module, or possibly the fuse. But, it don't hurt to cover all the bases. Good luck.
