My understanding is that if it is not in the direct line of vision, and you can cover it with a dollar bill, the glass companies can repair it. The're may be some other buts, not sure what they are.
In addition to that, in some states, it's covered by your insurance company with a ZERO deductible. Most auto glass companies know this and I believe they have "scouts" that go out and look for "customers". That's how I got my windshield fixed on my old '89 F150. They even came to my job to do it. No cost to me, whatsoever. They did, however, have to do it twice, since the seal wasn't done right the first time.
Yes, just go to any car window repair/install place. Almost all of them offer this service. It will be a big crack if you don't get it done quickly although. My insurance company paid it in full- no deductable- I guess they would rather take care of it than a whole windshield cost later. I would sure try and get it done before it gets colder, alot of windshields get huge cracks with the change of cold/defrost/cold- assuming you are in an area of weather change.
If you get it replaced be sure you go to the dealer and get a OEM windshield and not a CHEAP "yellow pages" windsheild like I did.
I asked the idiot if the windshield he was selling me was as good as the oem and he said yes......I don't believe him because it has already cracked almost in half just because of a needle size pin pick......so he said and they would not replace it.
The OEM windsheild that came out of mine lasted for six years and got beat up but NEVER cracked and it had quarter sized pits all over it.
So, get the best one you can buy or you will just blow your money away on these cheap.....probably "china made" winsheilds.
