98 Explorer Possible Transmission Problem
I have a couple questions..
98 Explorer 4wd Auto Transmission
Transmission..
Just got a 98 explorer today (cheap) and do not know much about fixing them. My problem is when I push the gas down fairly hard, a clicking noise starts up before it shifts to the next gear. When it shifts to the next gear the clicking noise stops, but if I keep accelerating and the RPM's rise, the noise will start back up until it goes to the next gear. It seems to shift fine with no hard jolts or clunking noises, but I am wondering if something is amiss in the transmission. It really starts clicking and will maintain the clicking if I am attempting accelerate up a hill. It does not seem to hesitate in power at all even when the clicking starts. When driving normally with the gas pedal pushed down slightly to maintain speed, everything sounds fine with no clicking.
4wd..
When I put it into 4wd low, it makes a snapping sound. When I switch it off, there is another snapping sound. I know that it is engaging and disengaging, but I would like to know if it is supposed to be making alot of noise. Maybe it just sounds loud??
Bt the way, this Explorer has 78k and am wondering what all I should replace to ensure that it will keep running well since I do not know the history of the vehicle..
Thanks for any insight..
