Hey everybody, new guy here. Hello, I just got done installing a Daystar 2.5" leveling kit, I didn't check before I did it, but I just put it in 4 wheel drive and tried some u turns in the court in front of the house and it would barely do a u turn. Question, is this normal? No noises, just felt like it barely did it, kind of binding sensation. Is it because the pavement was dry and I have limited slip? Or did I do something wrong? Thanks, Blub
Welcome to FTE blub. First, DO NOT drive on tarmac with 4 wheel drive engaged. It will cause problems for you (ie..breakage). There shouldnt have been any noises, but the binding is normal. To test the 4x4, you have to go to at least a dirt road, if not an open field or something. You wont feel that same binding as bad. It does feel worse when you are at a dead stop, trying to turn in 4hi. If you are moving along, it will be better.
Wow, that was quick! Thanks for the response, won't do that again. I was just curious because it's kinda scary tearing into your brand new truck and wanted to see if everything I did was ok. Thanks again, Blub P.S. There weren't any noises.

When you take a vehicle into a tight turn, the outer 2 wheels have to make more revolutions than the inside 2 wheels, because they travel a greater distance. When you do this on dry pavement with 4 wheel drive engaged, you can feel the driveshafts/axles struggling to find enough slippage where the tire meets the road. The Ford owners manual recommends engaging 4WD only on surfaces (like snow, grass, dirt, etc..) that provide enough slippage to prevent binding. Hope this helps.

That's kinda what I was thinking, [and hoping]. I had an Econoline 4X4 van and didn't think it was that bad in the van as this was, but I couldn't remember doing it on dry pavement before, I was just worried about my new truck and something that could have happened after putting on the Daystar leveling kit. It took about two days just to get up the guts to do this and only four hours to install it. Ride didn't change at all, very nice and I'm glad I did it. I was just adjusting the headlights and going around the block to check them out when I put it in 4X and well you know the rest. Thank You very much, Blub
