I had a gas leak at the carb inlet and after tightening was going to see if it was OK.
In the meantime I moved my trailer and when unhitching turned the key on to move the shift lever to allow the truck to roll forward away from the hitch. In a bonehead stunt I put the shift lever in Park but fogot to turn off the ignition. A few hours later I went to check the gas line and the coil was hotter than a pistol as well as the ignition key area on the steering column.
Is this normal or is there an abnormal draw of juice to cause it to get so hot?
This is definitely abnormal. The key should never be hot...I'd be checking wires soon and dis-connecting the battery until you find the short to ground. You're looking at a serious fire hazard here if things go much further.
Ignition key should never be hot, unless something has gone to ground.....and that's a problem....for real. I'd dis-connect the battery quick to keep the poer source from getting hotter until you figure out what whent wrong. Start with the ignition solenoid, and work back from there.
There isn't any hot wires near the key ignition switch, mebie it was in the sun and window rolled up...anyway, there is no hot source in the switch other than the key buzzer, and I really doubt it was too hot to touch. When they go bad, they stay on constancly (buzzzzzz) when you open the drivers door.
