No, if it is jetted proplley. I have done this on my 81 f150 when i first got this truck about 8 or 9 years ago. I pulled it of my cammed up mustang because i got tried of trying to tune the bog out of the combo. I seemed to remember something like a 65 or 68 primary jet and something like a 72 or 74 secondary jet, but I am getting to old too remember that far back or maby to many beer ago, but it did work if i carred my gas card with me.

If it is stock or close to it you can run a 600 CFM. I run a 4160 600 CFM Holley on a 460, jetted with .632 on primaries and it have a metering plate on secondaries. I run a Torq-Swirl 1" adp. and I get 11.3 MPG on the road. This is in an 86 F250 4x4 C-6

if you already have a 750dp then yes use it, I wouldn't go out, and buy one for that application, the theoretic capacity (at 100% effiecency ) is 732cfm at 5500rpm, but a stock 460 will not be anywhere near that number on efficiancy. if you are looking to buy one then look at something in the 650cfm range it would be alot better combo for you. but you can run the 750 jetted down, and would work just fine.

I'm running a Edelbrock 600 and an alum adapter on a stock iron intake , runs nice ...
I wouldn't BUY a 750 for that use , but if I OWNED one ...I'd use what I had

Mine 750 vacuum secondary works fine. I did a straight up timing set and a Stealth intake but other than that she is stone stock.
I get 12 mpg and it runs like it is fuel injected.

Monsterbaby, Great post, your the first one that has even closely agreed with me that there is no real reason to install a 750CFM on a stock 460.

I maybe wrong but I thought 80s Ford trucks ran 4180 holleys and in all my books I haven't found a 750 CFM Holley 4180. Again, I maybe wrong.

Hired Gun did you notice a large difference in the intake to head port openings? I am sure that you lost a little MPG with the difference in port sizes. When I bought mine I did a port match using the intake gaskets on both the heads and the intake. Just a thought.

"no real reason to install a 750CFM on a stock 460."
Other than to realize the full potential of the most seriously factory restricted and thereby most under rated big blocks of all time then I can't think of any reasons either.

A 460 needs some air. A 3" tailpipe to go with that 750 cfm on a 460 will make it a happy camper. I tow 16,000 gvw a lot and since I did the 460 I feel like I have a tail wind everywhere I go. This summer I'm going to try a 950 hp double pumper on mine. A well tuned engine will also hit 95 percent efficiency pretty easy. I have a smallblock 350 that hits 119% at peak torque. It runs best with an 1100 cfm carb.

The ports on my intake port openings looked just like the cast iron intake I took off. They were matched pretty close to the head right out of the box. I used the stock style all metal valley pan gasket and it was very close too. I'm not shy with a die grinder either. If I would have saw something I would have been right on it. I don't run headers but I still believe the heads would benefit bigtime if I could clean out the exhaust ports. Unshroud the exhaust valve and lose the smog humps. I didn't want to pull the heads at that time so they will have to wait until overhaul.

Hired Gun, going any bigger on the carb without porting the heads is a waste of time. The intake will take anything that you can throw at them but the exhuast just sucks. In fact with my 502 and perfessionally ported heads will only need a 950 and this motor is built to turn 6000-6500 rpms.

With your current setup your best bet would be headers. That might let you jump up to a 850 but I really doubt it. The stock cam is only good at best to 5000 rpms and more like 4000. It just not have the lift and duration needed to get all the gas in and exhaust out.

Ford never put a 750 on a 460. They came with a 600.
