Non-mechanical E40D problem?

My truck revs up trying to switch gears on the highway but cannot quite get it done sometimes, but when it does it lock in and barks the tires. It is an intermittant problem, sometimes it shifts fine. Sometimes it revs so high it sounds like the engine is about to blow.

I took it into a very large tranny shop and they scanned it and did not come up with any codes. I had already had the solenoids replaced. So they said the only other thing they could do was replace it with a rebuilt tranny. So they did, but it has not fixed the problem. What else could it be?

I am a die-hard Ford man but if my Fords don't quit costing me so much money I may have to reconsider!

Throttle position sensor and MLPS sensor on the side of the transmission are known to be weak points.
