On some applications you can get the AutoMeter trans temp guage which comes with the sending unit and usually there is a pressure test/temp plug on the trans that the sending unit will thread right into once the plug is taken out. From there its a matter of running the wire to the guage. Not 100% on the F150's. I just got mine three weeks ago.
Can anyone confirm / deny?
I'm curious if its that simple on these trucks. I know the F250 SD have a temp guage stock but usually the stock sending unit has a different voltage range for the guage then like the AutoMeter unit so you usually end up swapping out the sending unit if you upgrade guages.
AutoMeter is very popular/reliable. I have a full set of Autometer guages including trans temp on the a-pillar of my GrandPrix. When I plug in my AutoTap there is a stock sending unit that reads 10-15 deg. higher than the AutoMeter, but is consistent. The variation is because of the location of the Autometer sending unit being up on top of the tranny where as the stocker must read off the cooling line or in the pan. No one on that forum has had any problem with the AutoMeter setups. I recall someone had a oil pressure sending unit fail after a short time but AutoMeter sent them a new unit the next day. Now if AutoMeter has an application for F150, I'm not sure. I'm betting they do. I'll hop on their web site and see.
The Trans Temp Gauge comes with a 1/8" sensor with a 3/8" and 1/2" adapter. Does anyone know what size the test port is on the side of the E4OD Tranny?
Thanks for all of your help, tell me what you think.
The autometer Steering column gauge pod is what I used in my 99', bocks the view of the odometer but other then that its great. I went with a B&M gauge, for the sender here they give you a T that you cut into the RETURN line from the cooler (where they are supposed to read from) then the sender goes in T and you run your wires up to the gauge. I have yet to hook up the light wire, I'm going to tap into the wireing either at the light switch or the radio.
Pretty much totally blocks it off, just the odometer not the speedo or anything. If you really care about how many miles your getting on your truck it might be a problem, if ya dont WHO CARES is my thoughts
