I own a 59 F100 long box that I got when I turned 16, which was almost 18 years ago. I have had plans to customize for almost that many years. Back then my dad and I added a 302 and 4 speed out of a Mustang. Well the old girl got parked a year or two later and through out the years got stripped down. Dad needed the engine for his truck.
That brings us to today. Since then I have started to install a volare clip, and did a rear axle flip. But it just sits out in the weeds. A while back my 7 year old son asked if we could work on my old truck so he could drive it when he was 16. I can only say I was overwhelmed that he wants to turn the old girl into his first truck!! I pulled her in the garage last night. Today when he gets out of school we will start.
What really got to me is that he handed a picture he had drawn. It was a pickup sitting down low. Big wheels. Black with a flame job. I remember drawing the cars that I wanted to build someday.
I will keep everyone posted on the progress. Hope we can get her done in time. After all we only have 8 1/2 years.
Doug - What a cool plan. There is surely nothing better than building a truck with and for your son. 8 1/2 years might just be enough. Do keep us posted. Pictures please!
Looks like its a family tradition you've got going there. Especially if you pirate the motor back out of it later...
That's the best kind of project. All 3 of my kids (14,8,6) are helping to some extent on my F350, all at their request. There's nothing that warms a fathers heart like a 6 year old daughter asking when she can use the impact wrench again.
