1988 Fuel problem

Post 1988 Fuel problem

I have an 88 Ranger 4WD, single tank, 2.9. I have replaced both fuel pumps, fuel filter, fuel pump relay and inertia switch. After replacing fuel pumps and filter the inertia switch overheated and truck quit running and now I don't seem to be getting any fuel pushed through. I replaced the high pressure fuel pump and the inertia switch and fuel pump relay. However, when I was replacing the relay, I noticed two little box like things that looked like the one the Ford dealership sold me (fuel pump relay). Are there two relays? What are each of these things that look like relays? They sit next to each other on the passenger side behind the airfilter. Also, can the inertia switch overheating cause the fuel pump in the tank to burn up? Help, I'm going nuts trying to figure this thing out.

To get the inertia switch to overheat you would have to have an electrical short somewhere causing excessive current draw. Check With Sparky in the electrical forum.

Usually inertia switch failure is caused by a poor connection at either the fuel pump or the connector at the inertia switch.

The other relay is for the ECU.

Thanks. I finally figured that out the other day (it's also called the EEC power relay). I replaced it along with the fuel pump relay and the other stuff I mentioned in my initial inquiry. Any ideas, before I have to drop the tank and replace the tank fuel pump, as to why it still isn't starting?
