zf or mazda?
I have an 89 150 4x4 with a presently dead mazda tranny, that gave me two days warning of it demise. Needless to say, its a piece. Ok, so I don't want to buy a cheap mazda and have it go out in another 50 thou, so first, does anybody know of rebuild kits for it? Second, I would really like to put in a zf tranny, where can I get them where they don't cost an arm or a leg? I have the 4x4, and don't really know what the transfer case is, if its the same as the zf, or how good it is. I have a 302, and I am not sure if all the zf's will fit its bolt patter or not. Are there different bellhousings for the zf tranny? Will the zf tranny bolt right up to my truck, will the transfer case bolt right up? Any information from anybody will help tremendously. I need my truck running again. thankyou.

Yes, there are different bellhousings. You will need one from a 300, 302 or 351. Not sure if it's all bolt in or not. I'm not really up on this but I'd look at small block F250's with manual trannies.

Search for a post "The ZF has landed". Yes, it's basically a bolt-in, same length and all, but like he said you have to get a ZF that has the Ford small block bellhousing. They put 351's in bigger trucks, it's this transmission that you want. I can't remember exactly but your transfer case is either a BW 1356 or 1345 and it's probably fine.
