Unhappy Axle or Brakes locked up tight- please help

OK - I'm a newbie! I parked my 2000 Expedition about month ago before going out of the state. Now it refuses to move! Feels like the rear axle is locking up tight. I'd assume brake corrosion was the problem, but it will move approximately six inches before it freezes solid. I'm afraid to force it for fear of it being a drivetrain problem instead of brakes. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

A little movement

Six inches is a strange amount of movement, but hey stuff happens. I would block the front wheels and try to jack up the rear lifting both wheels off the ground. Putting the transmission in neutral, with the engine off, you should be able rotate the wheels, or at least get a better idea where the problem lies. If your still not sure I would recommend pulling the tires and inspecting both rear brakes while there off the ground. If you find nothing, or they rotate freely you may want to try the front ones next.

Make sure that the parking brake is released, cause sometimes they will seize up. Otherweise, like the others have said, pull the wheels off, and get a closer look.

I have a really good parking brake and at best, if I held it down (as it auto releases) it would amount to no more than a little noticible drag.
