For those of you that have installed a Airaid intake please help or even those that haven't feel free to respond as well. I installed the intake tonight and it looks good, but.. I took it for a ride and I noticed a vibration through the gas pedal. Anyone else have this or have any suggestions what may be causing this. It's around 55-60 mph, no other mods done except for a flowmaster 40. It's Screw 5.4 lariat if that makes a difference.
I assume you disconnected the negative battery cable on the battery when you installed the airaid. Just from what I have read when you reconnected the battery cable your computer has to relearn fuel, climate, driving habits, etc... I could be completely off base but I would check and see if everything is hooked up tight and drive it a little longer and see if it smooths out.
I don't have an Airaid on my F150, but I did on my 97 Dakota (Piece Of S) and the only thing I noticed on it was the increase in noise from the engine compartment. I did reset the computer though. Boomer08 gave good advice, that is the first step I would take.
I guess I am lucky. My 05 FX4 with the Daystar rides as smooth as can be with no vibrations at all. I have 1500 miles on it and it is the best vehicle I have owned to date.
I had the same rattle when I first installed mine. The problem is the cover is rattleing aginst the truck. Just look at where the air intake cover is touching the truck and bend it away. Problem solved.
I had the same vibration/rattle sound (metal) ---- if that's what you are refering too rather than the vibration problems in other threads.
The air-dam box most likely just needs to get tightened down a bit. I had to ensure that I didn't place the air-dam next to any other metal to metal part as well as ensureing that the rubber gaskets are in place. It's a simple fix, but also freaked me out for my first drive.
Once fixed though... it's a great system!
Good luck!
I put the airaid on my 04 Lariat and promply took it right back off, ( yes, I did reset the comp) after a 700 mile trip, the noise/resonation was just too loud for me! I should mention that I also installed the magnaflow catback #15821, and the combo of these two is very distracting. After removing the airaid and installing a K&N drop in filter, I am happy. The truck sounds good!
Now if the gas milage gets better, and these football shaped tires suddenly become round I will indeed be a "Happy Mother Trucker"
the vibration is normal all the new f150's do it!!! just ask your dealer atleast thats what I was told.
You are incorrect. All 150's do not do it. I have 24,000 on my 04 Screw with no vibration at all! Please don't generalize problems that only 5% of people on this board experience.
I installed one and had the same probs. Spoke to Airaid and they said a handful of customers were experiencing the same. After trying an AEM unit I am now on the K&N. What a difference. If your having the vibration issues go straight to K&N and save a lot of hassle.

from K&N's website:
NON-EMISSIONS LEGAL: AirCharger Kits are NOT legal for sale or use on pollution controlled vehicles in some states. These kits replace the original air filter box and may eliminate or defeat some emission controls.
this could be a problem at inspection time, depending on where you live.
I agree. Saved the stock intake if needed for emissions. FYI, Airaid has not got their CARB # yet either. I am sure all these intakes will be street legal soon enough.
Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with the truck and have experienced no vibration until installing the airaid intake. I have it narrowed down to what is happening. On the gas to 55-60 mph, let off and get back on and this is where a humming, vibration, strange something.. I know generalization, but it's hard to pinpoint. I called airaid and on the instructions at the very top, instruction 1, mind you.. you're suppose to disconnect the - battery cable. Guess what, my dumb in haste to install. They told me to disconnect the - cable, let sit for awhile and this should fix itself after 400 to 500 miles. Still skeptic but will give it a try!
My other question: I don't even have 400 miles on the vehicle so if it takes this long for the computer to do it's thing, etc., did I totally confuse my truck now!!
It is blond in color, you know!!!
Not only is every truck, car, anything I have owned is blonde, I have a blonde fiance and dogs! I was wondering if the airaid kit that just replaces the piping and filter would solve this problem. It retains the factory air box. Anyone have this setup? Worht the $ or should you just stick with K&N?
Bgute, I know exactly what you're talking about. I have the same issue. Yes, the airbox was rattling a bit and I bent it away from the fender, but that's not we're experiencing...right. I notice it at about the same speed you do and I feel it in the gas pedal. I think it is the natural vibration when the automatic tranny is "in between" appropriate gears such as when I we're on the freeway and lay off the gas for a moment; the tranny may downshift and then when you get back on the gas there is some lag time and vibration while it is shifting to the correct gear. I think it was always there, but just more noticable with the louder intake (less insulated). Oh yeah...I disconected the battery twice and no change, FYI. It sure is anoyying though. And tough to explain..right. Later!
