Driveshafts

Hey All,

I need driveshaft components for my '91 XLT 4x4 ex cab, 4L manual. The rear driveshaft is 2 piece. The slide is worn and makes a sound like small stones hitting it when you go from reversing to driving forward. I contacted the dealer and the '91 shafts are specific to '91 rangers and are obsolete. I don't really want the entire shaft, I just need the male and female parts that are worn. I don't want to get one from a wrecker as chances are it'll be worn. Anyone have a source on new male and female slides for Ranger driveshafts?

Rick

Go to a driveline shop and have them modify or build you another driveshaft.

Have you checked the GOOD parts stores?

Torque,
I'm looking for new slides. I did check aftermarket... Napa, Lordco... I build driveshafts at work and have the technology to build my own shaft. I would prefer to keep the shaft stock by cutting out the worn pieces and welding in fresh components.

I don't have any more ideas. Personally, if I worked for a driveline shop I would just find some commonly available slide and splice it in. Maybe something that will last, -like from a 98 Kenworth Tractor. -hehe
Chances are whatever you put in will never go bad again. If it does someone in the year 2010 will be scratching their head.

Hey,
I like the K/Whopper idea. Point made about the repair, probably never have to touch it again. I do lots of 4x4ing, and head up and down some very steep goat/skidder trails. The last thing I want to let go is a shaft. Going up and down travelling forward is spooky enough, I'd hate to have to back down.

Cheers,
Rick

Hey, think positive!

You have more "crush room" if you crash into something backing up.

You have a great oportunity to upgrade your whole driveline to some HD "break proof" components now. Just make sure you have a nice easily replaced "fuse-link" component so something really expen$ive or hard to fix does not break.
