My 2.9l has cracked heads and I'm looking into replacement options. I've heard the 4.0l may be a viable (relatively easy) replacement for the 2.9. Is that true?
My mechanic says the 4.0l has as bad a reputation for cracking heads as the 2.9l. Anyone had any experience with that?
Anyone swapped in a different engine? Good/bad experiences with other replacements?
Thanks
Ken
I would highly recommend a 4.0 at least out of a 93 ranger. I race my ranger on the streets and am costantly redlining it out and it has 205,000 miles and I have no complaints. But if your worried about heads over heating and cracking, I would recommend going with a electric fan. I use a flexalite black magic fan and it works great.
well i just finished a simaler swap but i went big i put a v8 in place of a 2.8 it was easy if u r good with cars so just trough u a 5.0 in it and have fun when u get done
