I am new and am glad I found you guys. I am restoring a 67 4X4 and sometime in the past someone has mutilated the dash where the radio goes. Does anyone know where I can get a repair panel? Any other advise would be appreciated.
By the way, a little about my truck. It is a 67 F-100 4X4 short bed. I have put a 1984 4-speed transmission (T-18) and transfer case (NP208) in it (had to shorten the rear driveshaft and lengthen the front) and am installing a Built 1994 351W. I have a 4-inch suspension lift and two inch body lift. The truck is riding on 35 inch BFG's. If anyone is going down this road, I might can help.
Ditto. There are plenty of exterior parts to be had; and untold interior panels, trim, and *****. But you won't find a repair panel for that.
Have a salvage yard torch out a section about 4" bigger than what you actually need. Grind off the excess. (That isn't warped). And see if you can find a welder to replace that piece, in the old ones spot. A little bondo for touch-up... and valah.
Another option would be to possibly cut your hole bigger (or prettier) and make an insert to carry your radio out of wood or plastic of whatever you prefer....When using the new "full-face" style radios the bottom will stick out even when the top is flush due to the contour of the dash metal....so you are going to need to make an adapter of some sort.
I have found a donor truck, however it is a 68 with the larger radio. It is hard to find an original 67 radio. If I upgrade to the 68 dash piece then I can get a newer AM/FM radio to go in the truck. I may even use the 68 heater controls. I know it won't be original, but at least it will look nice.
Even though it wouln't be stock, it would be a great improvement. With the addition of that larger radio bay will come the ability to use just about any modern radio setup you could ever dream of. I really wish Ford would have seen fit to do it to begin with.
Post a picture when you get it done!
Hey, thanks. I'll post photos as soon as that project is completed. I did just post some pics of the engine. I created and album on this forum, but not sure how to tell you where to go to find it.
