Nope... What are you trying to accomplish? Have you checked out the "Read First" posted at the top of this forum?

Hi,

I read the read first section, I'm trying to find what engine I have in my truck, the valve cover has 5 bolts, block casting 105, Holley 4160 4v, talked to local dealer, they said that the damper should have number that will help to find out which engine I have. Throughout the forum I learned that the engine is FE family. Any help is welcomed. Thanks,

The casting numbers off the block heads intake etc....will help. It's best to take off a head and measure the cyl bore this way there is no guessing. However take into consideration overbore when measurements are noted. The casting numbers will start with a C or D for 60's and 70's. The head numbers are in the center by the two center sparkplugs and exaust ports and the engine block numbers are on the side of the block. If it's a 69 or later there might even be a vin code also. That should get you started and read the above recommended info first. Good luck and ask questions! G.

You can measure the stroke without pulling the heads (see the FAQ or search this forum for the methods used). that will get you pretty close. once you know the stroke, then there is usually a most common displacemnet for that engine.

for example:

3.5" stroke- probably a 360, unless it was in a 67 or earlier truck, then 352 is probable.

3.78" stroke- probably a 390. If you stumbled on a 427 call me :-)

3.98" stroke- probably a 428. It could be a 410, but those aren't as common.

Use the stroke and VIN numbers if you think it's original to the truck and you'll have a pretty good idea what's in there. Again, these are just guidlines. People tend to do crazy things when it comes to 35 year old trucks!

Hi, I measure the stroke, it came close 3 14/16, so I assume its a 390, thanks for your help, but I'll post another question about converting from manual to power steering. Thanks,
