instrument clusters
I have an 1985 ford with no tach I bought a tach instrumnet cluster and it dont work. i think i fried the tach by accidnetly putting volatge to it. oups wrong wire oh well. anyways ford says there n/a and i can get my hands on a 1987 ford cluster with a tach for a diesel. does anyone no if this will fit in place of my 85 one. if the wring connectors are the same or not. thanks

I believe that '87 was the start of a new interior styling. with the round gauges.
Check to make sure the clusters are the same before you buy it. If thats possible. I have seen a few of the square tachs around here for diesels but they are rare.
As for why it won't work is beyond me. I have done quite a few of these tach transplants into gassers and everyone of them worked, pretty sweet that it was just a plug in deal.
I do have a low RPM tach out of a gasser if your interested. 0-4500. no red line or orange, basically the same as the gas ones just less rpm but its faded all white even the needle.

well i bought thje other cluster for ten bucks of ebay including shipping. according to my book the wiring is basically the same but the conectors are diffrent go figure. ya they are the newer round gauges. ill make me work just a mtter of doing some wiring and cutting here and there. I put some pics up when iam all done.
