I know this is very similar to dennis's post but i thought i'd post a new thread.
I was upset with the winter olympics this year, and not just because of the poor coverage by NBC that i mentioned before. The olympics are supposed to be a gathering of countries for friendly competetion (or at least thats what i thought). This year it has seemed like it was more just people getting mad at each other and a lot of constant complaints and everyone thinking they are getting short changed. the olympics is the last spot i EVER thought there would be scandels going on. Are these people power hungary or just crazy? There were some times where the true olympic spirt showed through and those were the times that i watched for, i just wish there were more of them. Maybe i'm only seeing half the story. What do you all think about it?

You're absolutely right Cowboy.
We always say " Don't let a politican anywhere near the place."
I read a story in the paper about how someone else felt.
It mentions people doing little things that would have gone a long way towards perfect games.
Its been a well known fact for YEARS that figure skating has been corrupted.
I like the plans for a new system > 14 judges throw seven marks out by a computer sort.
It looks like snowboarding has starting having problems too.
Myself,I only like to watch TIMED events as they cannot be corrupted.
The officiating from SOME hockey games was questionable.
The Final womens game was a complete farce and Tracy should apologize to the North America.
Skeleton was cool to watch > My knees ache just watching it.
Luge always great.
The Sleds were great too.
I felt bad for the skiers.
Those cross-country skiers must be supermen/women
It seems "Very Grueling"
What did I miss ?
Seeing some of the people I was with during 88 made me envious:
Mike Erusione
Ken Dryden
Peggy Fleming
just to name a few.

This was from The Calgary Sun written by David Chow
Corrupt judges, shady officials, double gold medallists, cheating hockey players and unfocused discussion plagued the 2002 Winter Olympics. What ever happened to sportsmanship?
Spectators from across the world watched Czech goaltender Dominic Hasek covertly try to cover up an obvious goal. Instead of acknowledging the goal, Hasek shifts in his goal crease and prays for a lucky break. Mix this with Jaromir Jagr's assault on a referee, Brett Hull's vandalism of a video camera, Roman Hamrlik's vicious crosscheck on Theo Fleury, the figure skating scandal, doping, public firings and the overall economy of sport, it seems the purity of the game's been lost. The sad thing is, most of these tragedies could have been avoided. Hasek could have simply said, "it was in;" Jagr could have skated 3 ft. the other way; the IOC could have dealt with the known corruption prior to the Olympics; the figure skaters could have exchanged medals themselves; Cana-dian ski officials could have waited until after the Games to fire coaches.
The point is, instead of embracing each other with respect as competitors, athletes, officials and the countries they represent, the message is conveyed that sport is a cutthroat, winner-take-all competition -- with the fittest often being those carrying the most public sway.
As such, it truly appears that sports-manship is a lost term of art and not a reality. This strikes at the heart of the Olympics, the spirit of the Games and the meaning of sport in general.
