1981 F100 engine swap

I have a 1981 Ford F100, 300 inline 6 cyl, automatic 3 speed transmission.
The motor is shot, I found a 300 inline 6 for sale from a 1978 commercial truck that had a manual transmission. Is the balancing different? Will the automatic bolt up to this engine?

Everything should bolt up the same. All inline sixes are internally balanced, so there won't be any differeance in the balancing. The only differance might be the oil pan configureation.

Just make sure that you use the flywheel from the automatic with the new engine and hook up the auto with the new engine keep the kick down switch and the neutral swithch that you have with the automatic and you should have no trouble if the 81 is a c4 and you swith to a c6 you will have to get a driveshaft from the c6 to fit your truck other than that all should be well good luck and keep on truckin mooseman

If you do use the engine from the 78 be sure to use all the motor accessories from your current motor, cause the accesories are going to be sighly different.
