Hi Guys,
I have a 96 Ford with the 4.0 liter with 70K on it. It just started to misfire every time its in a pull. It idles fine and runs smoothly after about 2500 Rpm. It only misfires right after I shift into a higer gear before it winds up.Before this i could let the motor bogg down to almost a stall without any misfiring.
Let know if any of you know of any possible solutions to this problem.
You could try cleaning the MAF sensor, check plugs and wires, replace the fuel filter, replace the air filter, etc. Or it could be just a tank of bad gas.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-Oct-02 AT 11:35 AM (EST)]Clogged injector?? Fuel filter?? Bad spark plug, or wire?? If a plug or injector are on the "hairy edge", they may fail under load only. But could be many things. Start with the simplest, cheapest, least time consuming. Let us know if you find anything.
I just changed the plugs and wires about 8K ago, so I can take them out of the equation. I thinking it might be the fuel filter or possibly the fuel pump.I checked the air filter yesterday and it looked fairly clean.
Will the check egine light detect a problem like this? When my engine was misfiring today the check enige started blinking and eventually stayed on. I'm gonna go to Auto Zone today and see what trouble code I get.
