New Here. I just picked up a 2004 F250 Crew Cab. It has the Elec Shift on the Fly 4x4. I was curious as to how the front hubs work. What are the two settings Auto and Lock? Do I leave it in Auto all the time? When do you consider using Lock? The owners manual is plain.
in the auto position, when you rotate the **** to 4 wheel drive it uses vacuum to engage the hubs. they put the "lock" function on the hubs just incase the vacuum system where to fail, you can still put the truck into 4 wheel drive manually and get home
So in the lock position its basically an override? I have a 1993 Ranger with the pushbutton 4x4 select. And when the motor went bad. You couldnt select 4x4. I was afraid this new truck being the **** select 4x4 could have the same results down the road. But I like the idea of the Lock feature. Now are you saying the 4x4 select on the 250 is vacuum assisted. I havent had time to crawl under the truck and look around. As it rained cats and dogs all day yesterday.
