stock trans temp questions

I have a 2002 f350 with the 7.3 psd. I have a question about the stock trans temp gauge, when I first start the truck the gauge in the dash reads in the normal operating range. I was in the undestanding that this gauge should slowly go up as the truck warms to normal operating temps., where it operates in the middle range of the gauge. Can anybody with knowledge on this please give me some insight, I have only had the truck for 2 weeks. thanks

The stock tranny temp gauge is actually an "idiot gauge", much like the oil pressure gauge. It will register "normal" whenever you're within a wide range of operating parameters. When you're truck is cold, it's normal for your tranny fluid to be cold, so it registers "normal". Pretty helpful gauge, eh? What you really need to do is to install a true tranny temp gauge, that will show you real tranny temp.
