NOisy transmission?

NOisy transmission?
The np-435 transmission in my 78 1-tonne dually makes this whiney grind kinda noise at part throttle but when I get on it the transmission goes quite.....
If the transmission is quite under load so I'm guessing its ok?
could a lousy throw out bearing be responsible for this grind kinda noise when the tranny is under light load? The through out bearing doesn't quite sound right when in neutral.
ANy help is appreciated, the truck weighs in at 12 000-13 000lbs fully loaded so I'm keen on getting the poor tranny up to snuff
