I'm hoppin mad. Why can't hotwheels and matchbox make some decent looking vehicles? Am I the only one who has trouble finding normal looking cars and trucks for the kids? I hate those futuristic and artistic looking crappy things they have out today. If I do find a normal model I will repaint it to suit my needs. Fingernail polish comes in lots of shades and shines!
Generally, Matchbox makes the more normal vehicles and Hot Wheels makes the wacky stuff. I too prefer the normal vehicles. Matchbox has a really nice '56 F100. I have several of them and currently at Toys R Us they have a "Then and Now" pack for about $9 which has a detailed '56 F100 and a late 90s extended cab F150. Also, one of my favorites is my Tonka SuperDuty, which first came in yellow with black accent along the lower edges, but now comes in white and black with Boge Trailer logo on it. I have several of the Hot Wheels Mantis '79 F150s and have rubbed out the stupid decal and repainted them all blue, tore off the junky cap and fashoned a tonneau from black plexiglass. There is a cool Hot Wheels Model A pickup roadster with a moon tank in the bed, no tailgate, no windshield, painted in rebel flat black, and powered by a blown flathead mill! I put many photos of these vehicles on this site last year, I think the thread is on this forum. If you search you can see the SuperDuties, and other stuff. Oh, also I have a (Racing Champions, Johnny LIghtning, or whatever) '59 F250 highboy with nicely detailed engine on that thread.

Thank you dude! Muchos gracias. I usually have to just look in Kmart and Walmart. Toys R Us is too dang far away. I will have to go look tho. I am glad I am not the only one who tries to find Ford trucks to play with..er I mean.. for my son to play with. I too have the Mantis Ford. I grabbed it up. My fave year!!! '79. Don't care for the long wheel base, but obviously beggers can't be choosers. What do you paint with? I use fingernail polish. Don't tell but I have a 1950something C***y stepside (hey, it was normal looking!) and repainted it a matte grey. Pretty darn good lookin. For a C***y. If I can't have the real thing, I'll play with the wrong.Hahaha. That was stupid. So shoot me! No, Don't.
I and the kids have pickups of Dodge, Ch**y, and even Toyota. On my Mantis I also painted in the side marker lights, tail lights, head lights, turn signals, and put black in the grille recessions. I have been painting with these Testors sets of acrylic that is water cleanup. I have only seen it in sets of about 8 bottles, no individual bottles. What I like about them is they have very little odor so my wife doesn't get upset. We buy any brand toy car/truck if we like the vehicle. Even got some pickup based Class C motorhomes in Canada. I also have the Harley Davidson 5-pack--all Ford trucks--a '79 F150, an '80s Bronco, a 40s drag truck, a '56 panel truck, and a '99 F150. I look for cars/trucks in practically every store I go into. One I have a hard time finding is ERTL brand, which has a nice 1/64 scale Superduty with dualies. The hobby shop had some ERTL flat bed ford cabover trucks for about $8 each. Driveshaft even could be turned. I went back for one and they were gone.
I've been building a 1/64 scale city, I'm up to about 1,000 vehicles, about 40 building's and loads misc pieces. As for the ford trucks i usually shop walmart, they seem to have the best selection of cars, johnny lightening has the best looking rigs and ertl and hot wheels collectables has the best detailed cars, look on the web for 3000toys.com , they have a good selection of every thing, lot of ertl supy duty fords, some dually, some regular, walmart also has a 79 f-150 that is really good looking, sam waltons personal truck, thats what it says on the box, the tail gate is down and sams dog is in a carrier there, I cut the dog off and put the tail gate up and put a lift in it, the rubber tires rubbed before, now it looks like a four wheel drive. Also drilled a hole for a fifth wheel trailer. If you need anything or you here of anything related to collecting let me know thanks in advance.

I'm 19 and I still enjoy collecting toy Fords. Just recently, I got a red Explorer Sport Trac from Wal*Mart. It was a match box and it looks normal. I, too, don't like all these weird looking vehicles. Even the normal one tend to be overdone with decals. The Sport Trac was very well done with just a small accent on each side. The tailgate even fold down and the bed extender can be rotated.
When I bought this Sport Trac, I also got the 56 F100 that someone metioned.
