need smoke
is their any way to make my 94 7.3 idi turbo make alot of black smoke. these ricers around town are getting on my nerves. my truck runs like a top for being 10 years old w/ 230,000 miles. someone told me to advance the pump but one of the nuts holding it on is really hard to get to, so i tightened the other two back up. any tips??
gig em aggies,, whoop
no, don't mess with timing too much, turn the fuel up!! theres a triangle shaped late on the left side of the inj. pump. take the little bolts off and DONT LOSE THEM and diesel will pour out, and get someone down under the truck and turn the motor over with a 1/2 brakeover and a 3/4 inch socket"if i remember right, it may be a 15/16, but i think its a 3/4" and get a 5/32 allen wrench and stick the long end in there, you may feel it kinda catch on something, your getting close, keep turning it, and wiggle the wrench and turn the motor over till you find the head of the screw and dont go too much farther. when you get the allen wrench in there, tighten the wrench about 1/2 to 3/4 turn. "dont take much" but that little bolt is pretty tight. dont tighten it up too tight cuz you could twist it off, but that bilt is like a grade 12 so its oretty stout. and ut it back together. if you have a flashlight and a small mirror like a makeup mirror and try to look into that little bitty hole in the top part of the triangle plate. its oretty tight in there with that turbo BS in the way. but its do-able, i did it to mine. there will be more smoke than you know what to do with at 1/2 turn, if you want max, go 3/4 but i don/t know all about the exhaust gas temps on the turbo diesel, it may get too hot, you may want a pyro guage. they are like 120 bucks for a good one. if you insist on messing with timing, get a 9/16 wrench and grind down the round end to where its skinny, like 1/8 inch wide, this will maki that bolt on the bottom drivers side manageable. you may have to cut it off short because of the turbo air cleaner box, but make sure you mark where its at right now so you can put it right back if you get it messed up or don't remember whch way you went!!! i have done this, and its no fun aying the shop to re-time your diesel. "dont go any farther than 1/8 of an inch either way of where its at right now, 1/8 inch is a LOT of timing, like 10 degrees or so. i'd turn it toward the passenger side just a little. the inj. pump gets worn out and it throws itself out of correct timing. to the right of the truck will help. that is advance. top of pump toward assenger side is advance. and change your fuel filter, it will make WAY more smoke with a clean filter, and get a baldwin bf1222, it gets rid of that aluminum thingy that drives you nuts. hope this helps you out.

You only need smoke if your sky writing. Thats a waste of money and power and might get you a ticket (dont know where you are from). Its your scooter and pocket book. Fuel is over $2.35 a gallon here. I dont like stuffing it out the pipe. Tootles for now.
I think you need to find another way to get on their nerves! Turning up the fuel will give you alot of black smoke but at a cost youll have to pay in the end - low mileage, high EGT's that will melt your pistons, more oil changes due to oil thinning from unburnt fuel. But if you can get them to pay for all this for you so you can soot up their interior and make them cough then go for it. Maybe you should invade their space, at the light/stop sign pull up on their bumper or get whithin an inch or two beside them so they see that FORD emblem and let them know you might not outrun them but you can run them over. Just remeber if they were any kind of a good racer they would build the HP in the motor and not just bolt it on. Nothing like a good slap in the face when you laugh at their ride at the light!!!
im in tx so they dont say much down here about the smoke and noise as much as some other states do. but diesel is over 2 buck here. its more than the mid grade gas. i wonder why?
2.30 a gallon here! what the hell! thats like 1/6 of every hour of work for a gallon of fuel.
I want to dump smoke too but I cant fukin afford to! its all a load of Bull*****.
5 years ago it was 1.30 a gallon.
1/2 turn is a little much dont you think?

heck i onlt truned mine up 3 flats on the allen wrench. go to my profile to see some nice picks of the old girl roasting her tires and throwing smoke. By the way they were old tires rite before i put my new tires on i had to get in one good burn out since i never abuse my truck like that on a regualr basis. just wanted to see what she could do tyep of thing.
i think my truck was alredy turned up a lot before i turned it u 1/2 a turn because i have turned up a bunch of trucks the same ammount and they dont blow near as much smoke. but before i turned mine up, it wouldn't blow no smoke at all. it got a little louder when i turned it up, but didn't gain much ower, in fact, i think i lost a little. but you can gain it back if you let off the throttle right to where it quits blowing smoke feels like it gains about 5-10 hp if you get the air-fuel mix right. and probably has something to do with timing too... idk. i think im actually going to turn it back down a little. and then mess with the timing to see if it helps any. i'm saving up for a banks turbo right now, but having second thoughts about maybe i can do it cheaper on my own... i gotta think some more
