rough running engine...

Hi all. i need some advice. i have a 1990 3.0l auto and it is running funny. i replaced the map sensor a while back and fixed a rich running gas guzzling problem. as of yesterday, some symptoms are back but different. starts easy enough idles ever so slightly rough but lacks power during acceleration and on the freeway, at crusing speed( no tach so i dont know rpm) in overdrive the whole engine will shake violently untill i let off of the gas or put my foot onto it. its still driveable but i travel 60+ miles to work a day and cant have it break down or lose gas mileage( dont know if it has yet because i just filled up and the guage is incorrect). i truly appreciate any advice because this is my only car right now and i cant afford a payment right now because im trying to buy a house.

thanks

ps- the replacement map unit was a motorcraft part any chance of a fuel psi regulator? i have all day to make trips to the parts house.

just a thought, but have you tried changing the plugs and leads, sometimes those leads break-down at higher rpm, also you might look at the fuel pressure! the fuel pressure regulator is a real big to get at though.

i found the problem. it was a spark plug wire arching to ground, causing a miss. the manifold melted the insulation. thanks alot though.

really pleasing when you find the problem and it is an easy fix.
