hey everyone. i know that this has probably been asked before but i couldn't find anything about it. what i need to know is what size tanks my 1988 f150 long bed truck has. i bought it used and on the rear tank i have a bad leak and the front tank leaks if over half full. all switch over valves pumps etc. working fine. i need to order new tanks and not sure if i need a 16, 17, 19 gal tank. all places i have inquired about a tank have asked for the three sizes i have listed and i do not know. any help would be appreciated
I have a 87 f150 4.9 and my owners manual says 19 gallons for the rear the only choice ????
My manual shows a footnote for the SuperCab long bed indicating a revision to 17 (actually it says 17.5 gal). Maybe yours was made before the revision was printed and maybe they were installing 19s in the rear before that? I don't know. I am the original owner and I know what the manual that came with mine says. Also, when I run the rear tank to near dry and refill it takes about 16-17 gallons. The front takes about 18 under the same circumstances.
i think the mainly indicator for the bigger tank is the wheelbase... i have a long bed but only a std cab, and i ask one from JC W. and he said that it is the short wheelbase e.g. 133" .And i have the "little" front tank. So now i´m a little bit confused !

Did you get a tank? I have a 87 f150 4.9 efi std cab, with long wheel base ( 8' ) and my front tank is a 19 gallon. I replaced it 3 months ago. Try autozone or vip etc. Did they try your vin number to match the tank size, might help?
Hi,
no i didn´t it yet.
the vin not include the size tank, i read the WB 133" from the door sticker.
i think autozone has no tanks for me, but i´ll look again for it.
Are the 133" really the "short" one ?
oh i´m searching for plastic tanks...

1987 f150 4.9efi standard cab long bed. Call ford with your vin number, thats what i had to do because my owners manual listed both sizes for my front tank. I have an 8' bed wb 133 with a 19 gallon front tank. My front tank measures 59" long from flang to flang. Autozone says its between the 16 and 19 gallon tanks for your truck and my truck. There someone on FTE that just bought a poly fuel tank. try an advance search above for fuel tanks. Measure the length of the tank. www.autogastanks.com have plastic fuel tanks
Under Fte search i found:
"42" is 16.5 gallons fuel tank
58" is 19 gallons
I have a 91 F150 XLT Lariat E4OD longbed."
Hey,
your link from www.autogastanks.com is not working.
*smile* the search button is back ... i´ll search for more info.
But i found something on the i-net, if the truck has a regular cab, the 133" wheelbase is the long one, if there´s a super cab, the 137" is the short one..... is this right ?
Damn, I throw the tank away.
Is the distance of the straps for the tank different, too, or is it the same ?
I prefer plastic tanks, because the shipping to Germany will be a little bit cheaper :-) I hope so....
